Calibrating Fiber Optical Test & Measurement Equipment
Metrological evaluation and calibration for optical power meters, attenuators and OTDRs are increasingly important to automotive, telecommunications, high-end consumer electronics industries. esz AG's fiber optical calibration system includes calibration stations for fiber optical wavelength, fiber optical power, attenuation and amplification ranges from 300 nm to 1750 nm.
From ultraviolet to infrared: Wavelength range from 300 nm to 1750 nm
Ever since fiber optics have been itroduced to the scope of service at esz AG in 1999, esz AG consecutively expanded their fiber optical laboratory. Today, laboratory capabilities show hardly any limitations with respect to calibration ranging from visible radiation (650 nm) to long-distance traffic (infrared, e.g. 1550 nm). esz AG's fiber optical calibration system is DAkkS accredited since 2003 and recognized as one of the only industrial DAkkS accredited DKD-laboratory for fiber optics (radiometric quantities) in Germany. Subsequently esz AG are one of the only industrial calibration laboratory capable of DAkks accredited DKD-calibration complying with DIN EN ISO 17025 requirements and technically feasable to issue accredited calibration reports in the field of fiber optics.

Every, single calibration requires visual inspection of a test object's optical in- and output. Every fiber optical part's condition is subject to evaluation and documenation prior and after professional cleaning of surfaces. Verifying mechanical deficiencies will guarantee and usability of one's test equipment in the field.
Trivia:
esz AG was first industrial calibration laboratory to achieve accrediation by DAkkS in the field of fiber optics and remain to this day one of three DAkkS accredited organziations.
Illuminance
LED – The light source of the future
LEDs are being used more and more frequently in everyday life, e.g. at workplaces or as street lighting. However, the calibration conditions in most laboratories do not cover this growing demand. In the calibration process of esz AG, the behavior of the devices is characterized by two different LEDs (color temperature 3000 K and 6000 K) and a standard light lamp (halogen). Because of their design, lux meters react very strongly to different light sources and customers and users benefit from more realistic calibration results by using different illuminants. This is the only way to determine which display deviations occur in rooms with different light sources or different spectral conditions. The calibration certificate shows the measurement results for all three lamp types. Furthermore, esz AG supplies a certificate of the type of lamp used as proof of traceability. In addition to comparing lamp types, a linearity test from 0 lx to 100000 lx is performed under LED lighting. Here, too, esz AG differs from other laboratories.
